How it works: StepE takes a fingerprint (SHA-256) of the PDF and has the computer’s security chip sign it. Both travel inside the file as an attachment called stepe-seal.json. This page recalculates the fingerprint, checks the chip’s signature and each person’s signature, and checks nothing was added afterwards. Saving the PDF again in another program removes the seal.
